OH MR. MANN!

Michael Mann:
"If scientists choose not to engage in the public debate, we leave a vacuum that will be filled by those whose agenda is one of short-term self-interest."
Rrriiiiggghhhtttt. There's none of that "self interest" stuff going in the science community, eh? There's no evidence that research funding is tied to projects that study climate change... oops. I'm sorry. That's sarcastic.
It's common freakin' knowledge that if you want funding, you'd better have climate change worked into your prospectus or thesis.
Self-interest: Acting in a way that is most personally beneficial.
Self-righteous: Having or characterized by a certainty, esp. an unfounded one, that one is totally correct or morally superior.
Hmmm... eeny, meeny, miney, MOE!

  1. I guess by his statement he still considers himself a scientist. He thinks that scientists should enter the public debate on global warming.....as long as they agree with him. Otherwise they aren't scientists, just denialists.

there's a shorter way to say it:

"...we leave a vacuum that will be filled by us."
