THE DAMAGE IS DONE AND THE OTTAWA CITIZEN CLUES IN AT LAST

Timeline:
2003: Lanark Landowners Association is founded to defend embattled rural businesses in Eastern Ontario
2004: Rural Ontario Landowners demonstrate on Parliament Hill to decry debilitating bureaucracies
2005: Rural Ontario Landowners demonstrate at Queens Park to protest big government policies that kill rural economic viability
2009: The Green Energy Act (and its FIT program) is introduced to the Ontario Legislature, and is quickly rammed through by a majority Liberal government
2014: Kelly Egan writes a story about the collapse of rural Ontario businesses, curling rinks and churches.
Hmmm. That Ottawa Citizen...if you cup your ear, you can hear the baying of the news hounds on the scent!

  1. Ottawa Citizen reporter must be having trouble paying his hydro bills. That's what it always has to come down to - sleeping tools don't wake up until the rats have chewed off something.

    1. You're right TurboDeere. Arse-wiping government is fine until they take YOUR land; Green Energy is wonderful until YOUR hydro bills go up or YOUR community hall closes.

  2. When Washington Irving penned Rip Van Winkle, he must have been taking a jab at the press. It's as if they were around when the Big Bang happened, and now, 4.5 billion years later, they're running around saying, "Geez, something is happening out there!."

    1. Years ago, my brother's cousin had a hound dog. My brother's cousin took my Old Man out rabbit hunting with this hound. My Old Man's comment about my brother's cousin's hound dog's tracking ability is a perfect description of the MSM's ability to smell a story:

"Couldn't track a f@#*&^g skunk with the shits"

  3. When the Landowners were interviewed by MSM and asked "What's the problem", the MSM heard "too much government" and couldn't compute. When you're born with the understanding that government is designed to take care of you, you can't understand how a practical, self-sufficient rural person might hate that same government and curse it for its debilitating, bloodsucking intrusiveness. If they can't understand it, they certainly can't report on it.

    1. I used to take pride in saying that us folks on the leeward side of the Caribous were the most self-sufficient folks in Canada. I can't say that anymore. Our last election proved that. Even substantial areas of Rural Alberta voted to have the government change their diapers.
