WYNNE'S DELUSIONS

ONTARIO'S BEER STORES

A greedy monopoly proudly owned and operated by foreign interests.

"The Beer Store is owned by Molson Coors (Canadian and American owned), Anheuser-Busch InBev (the world’s biggest brewer, headquartered in Belgium) and Sleeman Brewaries (owned by Japan’s Sapporo Breweries)."

Time to give The Beer Store and the LCBO the raised digit: many of these small craft breweries are non-unionized and offer on-site retail purchases.

McDonald’s Canada responds to CBC report on its CEO calling foreign worker controversy ‘bullshit’

“The CBC has continually misrepresented our employees and ignored its responsibility to provide objective and balanced reporting to the public,” responded the fast food giant in reaction to the report on the call from the public broadcaster. “Throughout, we have cooperated with the CBC to assist the accuracy of its coverage but the CBC has repeatedly omitted facts and pertinent information provided by McDonald’s.

AND IN THE LAND OF RESPONSIBLE BANKING...

We're in good hands folks!
Bank of Canada Governor Stephen Poloz said interest rates will probably be lower than they have been in past economic cycles once the current recovery is complete. “What I really think we are observing is a high level of self responsibility through this,” Poloz said at the press conference. “There is all kinds of anecdotal evidence that people are choosing to buy less house than they qualify for because they don’t want to over-extend themselves, that our banks are underwriting very carefully.” “It’s more like a post-crisis repair job for the economy as opposed to a classic recovery,” he said. “Frankly, we don’t have models for that, we’re just watching it happen.”
No mention of responsible government borrowing/spending here, eh?

PROPERTY RIGHTS UNDER THREAT

As we've noted in the past, here in Canada, you really don't see free-minded citizens spontaneously rally to defend victims of expropriation-without-compensation. At best, people slow down to gawk and stare while they drive by the gory scene. Thankfully, we do have groups like the Frontier Centre (to tell stories you won't find on the CBC).

KEYNESIAN ECONOMISTS DON'T UNDERSTAND INFLATION

More from the Mises Institute:
"...it’s much easier to let this inflation tiger out of its cage than to get it back in. We have ample evidence that once inflation picks up, it’s extremely difficult to control."
"The Fed should draw several lessons from history about inflation. The first is that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. You treat inflation like sunburn, by protecting yourself before your skin turns red."

FCC RENAMED: FARM CREDIT UNLIMITED

Farmland Investors:
On Monday, April 14th, 2014 Farm Credit Canada ("FCC") released its 2013 analysis of farmland price trends across Canada by province. In all provinces, farmland values either increased or remained stable. Saskatchewan experienced the highest average increase at 28.5%, followed by Manitoba at 25.6% and Quebec at 24.7%.
Despite record Canadian farm debt that rises annually with ensuing increased debt-servicing charges and predictions of higher interest rates, federal agriculture minister Gerry Ritz does not see a problem. “I compare the debt to asset ratio and that is healthy. Farmers make decisions based on their economy. Banks and lending institutions like FCC (Farm Credit Canada) are smart, won’t stick their neck out too far (and) everything is covered well.”
We find that all Crowns compete to some extent directly with private financial institutions, and hence operate beyond any potential market gap. FCC, whose share of total farm loans has grown from less than 15 percent in the 1990s to 29 percent in 2011, appears to operate the farthest removed from a complementary role. We also find that Crowns’ operations pose risks to taxpayers and the overall economy – and that these risks seem to have grown in recent years. In particular, the FCC has grown alongside a rise in the level of farm indebtedness and a bidding-up in farm asset values, including supply-managed farm quotas.
Ya think?

Ontario Finance Minister Charles Sousa announced Friday his government will establish a council led by a banker to suggest ways to boost the return for the taxpayer shareholders of Ontario Power Generation (OPG), Hydro One and the LCBO.
PC MPP Vic Fedeli said the announcement is political cover for a Liberal budget that will increase spending, rather than a sincere effort by Sousa to make better use of public assets. “It’s just another panel that they’re going to ignore,” Fedeli said.

"Renewable developers take note: Governments are entirely within their rights in going back on a deal. "

Yup...We know that.

Even if the defendant (government) was acting outside of its statutory authority, and I emphasize that I am making no finding in that regard, the fact remains that the expropriation of the land was legal and based on Munro, the defendant is within its legal competence to change the purpose for which the said land was expropriated.
