My conspiracy theory: Harper did it all a-purpose. Just to demonstrate to Canadians how the most rotten, lying bastards our society produces will end up being awarded the lottery-for-life in a rigged game. It takes a lot to rile Canadians, and he figured he'd blow it all up and himself in the process. C'est la vie.
Yes, Harper 's selection committee should be fired. It looks as though they hardly know enough to even do Google checks on their Senate appointees.
