Whether it's good for the US or not doesn't even enter the picture. It is all about something entirely different: winning the next election. A critical percentage of our respective electorates have lost the ability to think independently and analytically. Their concerns for their country and its future are even more myopic than those of the politicians. It amounts to this: me, today.
