QUEBEC GETS THE BENEFITS, WEST DOES THE WORK

Yesterday the mayor of Montreal, a Liberal named Denis Coderre, demanded that the Energy East pipeline proposal be blocked from passing over Quebec’s sacred territory.  It's a $15.7 billion infrastructure project, and that's just the construction.  The whole point of building is to bring in oil to feed Eastern Canadian refineries, to displace foreign, conflict oil that we now import from OPEC. But Denis Coderre doesn't care, because Quebec gets $21 billion a year right now in transfer payments, extracted in part from the oil industry in Alberta and Saskatchewan. .
