Ontario Liberals ran deficits in 11 of their past 14 budgets, almost 80% of the time, a new Fraser Institute report by Ben Eisen reminds us. Liberal deficits ranged from $991 million to $19.3 billion annually and averaged $8.6 billion annually while Wynne and Dalton McGuinty held office.
Over the same period, Liberal program spending — excluding debt — increased from $70 billion to $130 billion, an 84.6% increase, almost double the 44% growth necessary to offset inflation and population growth.
And now, in an election year, Wynne’s government has massively hiked spending — by $7 billion over last year.
