Around 70 per cent of children in Alberta’s welfare system are Indigenous, making up a disproportionate number of the more than 10,000 children receiving services.
“I bang my head against the wall; what’s going on?” Donald Langford, executive director of the Métis Child and Family Services Society, said Tuesday. “When I started 20 years ago, only 42 per cent of kids in care were Indigenous.”
